Amber Heard Trial: Kate Moss Finally Testifies Depp Never Pushed Her Down Steps

Topline

Supermodel Kate Moss gave her highly anticipated testimony virtually Wednesday in Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard, testifying that the Edward Scissorhands actor did not push her down the steps, directly contradicting something Heard previously testified to.

Key Facts

Moss, who testified via video from Gloucestershire, England, said she had a romantic relationship with Depp from 1994 to 1998.

Moss told Depp’s attorney’s that during a vacation to Jamaica with Depp when they were dating, Moss slipped down the steps after a rainstorm and hurt her back.

Moss said she screamed “because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain,” and Depp came to her aid, carried her back to her room and got her medical help.

Moss said Depp never pushed her down a set of stairs at any time during their relationship, including on the trip to Jamaica.

Crucial Quote

“He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs,” Moss said.

Key Background

When Heard mentioned Moss earlier, Depp and his team seemed very pleased. That’s because by introducing the alleged incident with Moss it presumably allowed Depp’s lawyers to introduce her as a witness. Heard brought up Moss when testifying about the “staircase incident,” a fight Depp and Heard had at the top of a staircase in their penthouse in 2015 when Heard’s sister was present. Both told different stories about the altercation. Heard said she “instantly [thought] of Kate Moss and the stairs and I swung at him,” to prevent Depp from harming her sister, Whitney Henriquez, who was in between the lovers. In Depp’s 2020 libel trial against British tabloid The Sun, which he lost, Heard testified that two people told her Depp pushed Moss down the steps. The actor told the jury Heard punched him and said Henriquez was between Heard and Depp to stop Heard from attacking him.

What To Watch For

Heard’s legal team rested their case Tuesday. The civil trial is expected to be turned over to the jury on Friday.
