‘Andor’ Trailer Shows Us A Darker Side Of The ‘Star Wars’ Galaxy

I admit, when I heard about a Cassian Andor live-action prequel show I was intrigued but not overly hyped. I loved the character in Rogue One—the best of the new batch of Star Wars films—played by Diego Luna. But we already know what happens to Andor, which is often a weakness when it comes to prequels in general.

But nothing prepared me for the sheer awesomeness of the show’s first trailer. For one thing, it’s every bit as dark as Rogue One, showing us the not simply the Empire at the height of its power, but the inside of the Imperial Senate itself. This show takes place during a time when rebellion was only just brewing, and the Empire ruled the galaxy with an iron fist.

The fear is palpable. It’s quite something. Check it out:

From the press release:

“The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

“Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is the creator and showrunner.”

That’s quite a cast. Genevieve O’Reilly plays rebel leader, Mon Mothma, though during this timeline she’s still hiding in plain sight.

Andor takes place just five years before the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, which places it just four years after Obi-Wan Kenobi, and smack-dab in the middle of Star Wars: Rebels. We’re finally filling in the years between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars film.

Andor comes to Disney Plus on August 31st, 2022. You can watch the brand new trailer for the live-action Willow series right here.

Lucasfilm also released the first Andor poster today:

I can’t wait. This looks brilliant.
