Arsenal board fears justified as Liverpool advised to draw up two-man transfer shortlist

Arsenal’s fears that Bukayo Saka could leave the club may soon be realised with Liverpool being urged to move for the winger.

Saka, 20, has established himself as one of the most talented prospects in the Premier League this season and made himself one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team-sheet as he enjoyed a fantastic campaign. Saka registered 11 goals and seven assists in the Premier League last term, ending the campaign as the club’s leading scorer

But the Gunners fell short of securing a return to Champions League football after six years out of the competition. And the fact Arsenal have failed to reach the Champions League will not ease fears over Saka’s future, particularly given his contract situation in North London.

As things stand, Saka is tied to the Emirates until the summer of 2024. He has just two years left on his deal and the club’s hierarchy know that, from this point, his market value is only going to go down unless they can tie him to a new deal. Fail to do that however, and next summer could present the Arsenal hierarchy with a hugely difficult decision to make.

While all options surrounding his future are likely being deliberated by both Saka’s representatives and Arsenal themselves, interest from Liverpool is well known and, given their own star wide-forward Sadio Mane is keen on bidding farewell to the Anfield faithful this summer, growing.

Mane is wanted by Bayern Munich and is attracted by the prospect of plying his trade for the German giants as he seeks a new challenge after six years at Anfield. In turn, a vacancy on the flanks will present itself soon – one that former Reds defender Jose Enrique feels should be filled by Saka or West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.

“We also need a right winger and I think Jarrod Bowen or Bukayo Saka could be a great shout as they’re both not playing in the Champions League so it’s a big possibility,” the Spaniard told Genting Casino.

The Gunners are actively seeking to tie Saka down to a new deal. More negotiations are set to take place in the coming months, while Arteta also aims to bring in new recruits to help boost the club’s chances of returning to Europe’s elite sooner rather than later. But the Arsenal boss will be all too aware of the fact Klopp like his No.7, having previously described Saka as a “very young and exciting player.”
