After the devastation of missing out on Champions League football in the final throes of the 2021-22 season, Arsenal fans may be finding some perspective a week on.
The Gunners were in the box seat to secure a top-four spot until back-to-back defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, paving the way for the former to snatch fourth at the last. However, manager Mikel Arteta has overseen a season of steady progression overall.
The challenge for the club now will be finding a way to keep in the race next season and potentially bridge the gap to some of the elite sides in the division.
Mirror Sport has the latest Arsenal news at the start of a crucial summer window for the north London club.

Emery signings assessed
Although he has gone on to enjoy success with Villarreal, Unai Emery’s time at Arsenal was far from memorable.
Emery may have steered the Gunners to a Europa League final, but in his one-and-a-half-year stay at the Emirates Stadium the football was uninspiring and the results were poor. His successor – Arteta – while far from perfect, appears to have the team on the right track again.
The current manager has also taken a ruthless approach to a number of the players signed by his predecessor. Of the 12 players acquired by Emery, more than half have moved on and the potential is there for a few more to depart this summer.

Potential double transfer blow
Arsenal will reportedly face significant competition from Tottenham for two of their primary transfer targets this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans and Nottingham Forest full-back Djed Spence in recent weeks, with the squad light in both areas of the pitch during the tense run-in.
However, it’s been suggested that Spurs are ready to compete for both players in the market, as they are armed with a £150 million cash injection and the promise of Champions League football.
Tielemans is expected to leave Leicester in the coming weeks, with his contract up at the end of next season. Meanwhile, Spence has been on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League.

Aubameyang ‘sad’ at Arsenal slip-up
Former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shared his disappointment at the Gunners missing out on the top four.
Aubameyang was part of the Arsenal squad for the first half of the season, before Arteta made the decision to move him on in January after a falling out. The Gabon international was not directly replaced, much to the annoyance of some sections of the fanbase.
Despite the bitter nature of his departure, it would appear the former Borussia Dortmund star still holds some regard for his former club.
“I have a lot of friends over there,” he said when asked about Arsenal. “I’m wishing them all the best for next season, obviously. I think it’s gonna be a good thing for them to get back to the Europa League as well and hopefully they can win it.”
