Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta close to dream signing as five key targets emerge

Mikel Arteta is closing in on his dream scenario at Arsenal should the club be successful in bringing in Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer.

The Gunners boss is keen to bolster his options at full-back in the summer transfer window following Kieran Tierney’s injury troubles this season. He also wants to bring in a new central midfielder – and Zinchenko could help Arteta in both departments.

That would also hand the Gunners boss the opportunity to finally regularly deploy his ideal tactical set-up on the pitch for the first time since arriving at the Emirates. It comes as Arteta’s five key summer transfer targets have now been decided.

And Mikel Arteta has responded to calls for Arsenal to bring Theo Walcott back to the club.

Arteta close to dream signing

Mikel Arteta may finally be able to deploy his preferred 4-3-3 tactical set-up should Arsenal be able to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukrainian has been linked with a summer move to north London with Arteta targeting the Manchester City star to add options in defence and midfield. And Zinchenko’s versatility could finally give Arteta the players he needs to implement a 4-3-3 regularly and give Arteta his dream scenario.

With Zinchenko finding opportunities at City hard to come by, the move could see him primarily playing in the number eight role that Granit Xhaka played at times last season.

Key targets emerge

Mikel Arteta has five main targets ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is one player on Arteta’s transfer wishlist, and he is joined by four others. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having not been replaced since his January departure while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah look likely to leave when their contracts expire a new striker is a priority.

Gabriel Jesus is Arteta’s main target to lead the line for Arsenal next season, while Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves are also wanted in midfield. And the Gunners could also target Bologna’s Aaron Hickey, with reports suggesting a move for the Scotland international is now ‘very likely’.

Arteta reacts to Walcott calls

Mikel Arteta has responded to being told he should bring Theo Walcott back to Arsenal.

The former Gunner, now playing for Southampton, has shared the story of how he bumped into former teammate Arteta last week while with his son. Walcott says his boy Arlo who told Arteta to bring his dad back to the Emirates.

And according to the Southampton forward “it just went over his head”.
