William Saliba has been told he will “be upset” if he comes back to Arsenal this summer expecting to get straight into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up.

It comes as Gabriel Jesus has posed a fresh Arsenal transfer question to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola after being linked with a summer move to north London. And the Gunners have seized the top-four initiative with a 3-1 win over Manchester United.

United talking points

Arsenal boosted their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League as they beat rivals Manchester United 3-1 on Saturday.

A first Arsenal goal for Nuno Tavares, a Bukayo Saka penalty and a Granit Xhaka screamer proved more than enough for the hosts, despite Cristiano Ronaldo ’s 100th Premier League goal putting the visitors back in the game. Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty and Diogo Dalot twice hit the woodwork for United as Mikel Arteta’s side held on for the win.

It was a match full of talking points, from Bukayo Saka dispatching another excellent penalty to well and truly banish his Euro 2020 demons and Xhaka’s incredible strike.

Jesus poses transfer question

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus has posed a transfer question to his bosses after being linked with a summer move to Arsenal.

The Brazilian striker may find first-team football more difficult to come by if he does remain at the Etihad beyond this summer, with Erling Haaland widely expected to join Pep Guardiola’s side and give the City boss the top-class centre-forward he’s been craving. City famously missed out on signing Tottenham’s Harry Kane last summer with Daniel Levy refusing to lower his demands for the striker, and City now appear to have seen off competition from Real Madrid to land Borussia Dortmund’s Haaland.

But an incredible four-goal haul by Jesus against Watford on Saturday afternoon may just have Guardiola rethinking things.

Saliba sent warning

Former Arsenal defender William Gallas thinks his compatriot William Saliba may be ‘upset’ when he returns to the Emirates this summer.

Saliba has been in impressive form during his loan spell at Marseille this season, leading to him being called up to the France national team. But Gallas thinks he’ll have a tough job on his hands once he returns to Arsenal to disrupt the partnership of Gabriel and Ben White in the centre of defence – and Saliba may have to patient and wait for his opportunity.
