Cristiano Ronaldo scored on his return to the Manchester United side against Arsenal on Saturday and dedicated his goal to his late baby son in a poignant celebration.
The United striker has endured a traumatic week after he and partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the tragic death of their son on Monday in a heartbreaking statement, while also confirming the arrival of their newborn daughter. Ronaldo missed United’s defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday but returned for the clash with Arsenal on Saturday.
Fans inside the Emirates Stadium gave the 37-year-old a warm applause when emerging for the warm-up and joined together in an ovation in the seventh minute in tribute to his baby son. United struggled to get going in the match and found themselves two behind, before Ronaldo struck an historic goal to halve the deficit, before pointing to the sky in memory of his baby son.
