Chelsea news: Ousmane Dembele rumours grow as Blues benefit from Liverpool defeat

Chelsea officially lost their European title on Saturday night, as Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Given how close they came to knocking out Los Blancos in the quarter-finals of the competition, there would have been some frustration from Blues fans watching on. However, manager Thomas Tuchel and his players will surely be seeking to use that angst as fuel going into a busy summer and next season.

With the uncertainty over the club’s ownership seemingly sorted, plans can be put in place to revamp a squad that will have some big players move on. Defensively, in particular, Chelsea are going to need some reinforcements.

Mirror Sport has all of your latest Blues news, as they seek to move on from a testing term.

Dembele to Chelsea speculation intensifies

According to reports in Spain, Chelsea are getting close to securing the signing of Ousmane Dembele.

The France international winger is out of contract at Barcelona this summer, meaning he will be one of the most attractive free agents on the market.

Although his time at the Camp Nou has been punctured by frequent injury issues, Dembele produced a strong end to the campaign and was one of the Blaugrana’s most important players. However, the Catalan giants are yet to agree an extension.

That may be to Chelsea’s benefit, as the winger has remarkable natural talent and game-changing temperament – if he can stay fit. It has also been reported that one of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi or Timo Werner will leave Stamford Bridge should the Frenchman arrive.

Liverpool loss nets Blues bonus

Given the rivalry that exists between Chelsea and Liverpool, you suspect the majority of Blues supporters were cheering on Madrid on Saturday night.

However, there was another major reason for the Chelsea faithful to back Los Blancos – Eden Hazard.

Although the Belgium international has endured a disastrous spell since moving to the Spanish capital, he was part of the Madrid squad that clinched the European Cup. And that means the Blues are owed a payment as part of the transfer deal.

Hazard’s switch was worth a massive potential £130 million including add-ons. £15 million of that sum was to be paid to the London club once Hazard became a Champions League winner.

Torres comments on future

Reported Chelsea target Pau Torres has said he is “calm” about his future and hinted he is no rush to leave Villarreal.

The Spain international has had another excellent campaign. Last term he was crucial in the Europa League success and this season he helped Villarreal make a surprise run to the Champions League semi-finals, where they lost to Liverpool.

Such is his form, the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have been mentioned as possible suitors for the 25-year-old. But there doesn’t appear any great urgency on the player’s part to depart.

“Right now there is nothing at all, there is talk of many things like every year, I have peace of mind of being where they want me, at the club of my life and I have this offer right now that I value as very positive,” he said.

“There is nothing right now, the only thing I have is the offer from Villarreal, so I am very calm.”
