Chelsea news: Robert Lewandowski bid launched as Thomas Tuchel transfer plans take shape

Chelsea have launched an audacious bid to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish striker has been embroiled in a transfer saga all summer and appears to have his heart set on joining Spanish giants Barcelona. But Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is hoping bring in the forward and gazump Barca in signing the 33-year-old marksman.

It comes as Tuchel’s transfer plans are beginning to take shape, with Raheem Sterling flying out to USA to join the club’s pre-season tour and the club ready to pursue Kalidou Koulibaly. And Ethan Ampadu could finally be given a chance to prove he can be the ideal replacement for two of Chelsea’s stars.

Lewandowski bid launched

Chelsea are hoping they can beat Barcelona to the signing of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Bayern Munich forward looks set to leave the German outfit this summer and has been widely linked with Barca. But with the Spanish side struggling financially, a move is yet to take shape and Chelsea now hope to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the striker.

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen, with Lewandowski understood to be open to both moves.

Tuchel’s transfer plans take shape

Raheem Sterling is flying out to join his new Chelsea teammates on their pre-season tour of the US, with Thomas Tuchel now turning his attention to defence.

The Blues are in need of reinforcements at the back following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Chrsitensen. Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been identified as a potential replacement, with his contract in Italy set to expire in a year’s time.

Tuchel is also progressing with moves for Nathan Ake and ex-Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry as his summer transfer plans begin to take shape.

Ampadu could get chance

Ethan Ampadu can be the ideal replacement for two of Chelsea’s senior players.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are both entering the final year of their contracts, leading to speculation about their futures. Kante has been linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United in recent days while reports have suggested Jorginho could return to Italy.

Ampadu thrived in midfield for Venezia last season, having been used primarily as a defender when out on loan at Sheffield United the season before. And with the Blues looking a little light in both areas currently, the Welshman could be ready to step up.
