‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Looks Like It Could Be A Promising Anime Series

It’s been a while since heard anything about Cyberpunk 2077’s anime spin-off, but the latest Edgerunners trailer really looks rather promising.

First of all, the studio and team behind this anime aren’t exactly trivial people. Studio Trigger already has a solid anime pedigree and what with Hiroyuki Imaishi directing and Yoh Yoshinari handling the character design as well as the animation direction, Edgerunners will at least look amazing.

The real question here though is whether the story and script will be any good, and this is where we get into more uncertain territory.

Considering the massive debacle that was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and the example set of why you shouldn’t release an unfinished game, it’s worth pointing out that CD Projekt Red is handling the story and script.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is a far less buggy mess now than when it launched, my confidence with the creative output of CD Projekt Red at this point is pretty low.

Yes, the same studio handled The Witcher games brilliantly, including their complex narrative from the novels, but that expertise was seemingly thrown out the window with Cyberpunk 2077.

In short, I fully expect Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to look amazing and be very gory with it, I am just not holding out for the story being anything all that engaging.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be released this September on Netflix.
