Alexandro Miro’s resort collection has officially launched in time for all your vacation plans for summer 2022. The new line, appropriately named Island, comprises of the brand’s classics as well as gorgeous new shapes in the most delicious, resort-chic prints imaginable.
This is the first time Alexandra Miro, the eponymous founder of the brand, has designed a collection very much focused on dresses. A personal favorite, the Celeste Dress offers a look that’s dramatic yet sophisticated — the maxi length combined with billowing volume and classic halter neck design screams old-fashioned Hollywood glamour. The mini version of the Celeste Dress enjoys a sweet silhouette that’s more playful and casual, with buttoning details to the front and back.
The new collection also boasts elegant one-piece swimwear designs that can easily be paired with floor-sweeping silky dresses or palazzo pants for a romantic, beachside to dinner look. I speak to Miro about the new season, her inspiration, and everything in-between.
Angela Lei (AL): Love the new season, especially the strawberry print! What inspired the collection?
Alexandra Miro (AM): I designed this collection last year during the uncertainty of the pandemic. It was really a form of escapism — I was dreaming of being away and looking really fabulous. I always have an affinity with Ibiza and so I called the collection Island, and shot it in an old finca which had been redesigned in a contemporary way. I feel the house represented me as a designer as I do look back to the glamour and refinement of vintage eras and try to recreate in a way that feels contemporary.
AL: Describe the design aesthetics of Alexandra Miro with 3 words.
AM: Bold, feminine, irreverent.
AL: Does your brand represent your personal style? What’s your favorite go-to brand apart from your own?
AM: Alexandra Miro does very much represent my personal style. It is more flamboyant than I might wear day to day as I tend to favor more minimalist pieces when I’m at home in London. However, when I’m vacationing I love to dress up and release a different side to my personality, one that is more free and unrestricted. I love holiday dressing for this very reason as you can truly experiment with color and shape. In terms of other designers I love Norma Kamali. I find her a great source of inspiration as a designer and as a woman and I live in her stretch Lycra pieces.
AL: Favorite piece from the current collection?
AM: The Charlize Palazzo pants as they are so versatile. Styling them with a swimsuit and they can easily take you into the evening.
AL: I learned that traveling was a big part of your life growing up. What’s your favorite vacation destination? And what’s the most exotic place you’ve seen your design being worn at?
AM: Italy is so beautiful I love the culture, cooking and the amazing landscapes. However, Ibiza will always be the place I will return to as the island has such great energy. People tag me all the time, one lady tagged me on a safari which was pretty amazing with an amazing backdrop.
AL: How do you balance seasonal trends with timelessness, to keep the brand fresh and exciting yet keeping that classic appeal?
AM: As a brand we aren’t super driven by trends, but that being said we aren’t immune to what is happening around us. Color is probably the most obvious way we update our look season after season. We are also extremely print driven so it’s important that we get the prints right and in line with what the customer might be looking for each season.
AL: What’s your opinion about social media and its role in the fashion industry?
AM: Social media is fundamental to any fashion business. It has made building a brand far more egalitarian. It is how I have built Alexandra Miro and where I see huge potential for growth.
AL: What’s next for Alexandra Miro — as a brand and for you as a business woman?
AM: Alexandra Miro is growing rapidly both through its direct to consumer business and also our retail partners. We hope to consolidate the business and grow it more into new territories. On a personal level I am so excited to keep creating collections and pieces that make women feel special and confident. This is the whole ethos behind the brand and something that I truly value as a business woman and founder.
