FKA Twigs Releases New Single ‘Killer’

FKA twigs kicked off 2022 with the release of her debut mixtape Caprisongs and several “Caprivid” visuals to accompany the project. Now, just a few months later, twigs is back with a new single, “Killer.”

The British singer first debuted the song during her Tiny Desk (Home) Concert. The track features production from El Guincho, the Spanish producer behind Rosalía’s hits.

“‘It’s dangerous to be a woman in love’ — when at its worst the effects of heart break can define one’s trajectory much more than the beauty of the love itself,” Twigs said about the new release in a statement. “In my song ‘Killer’ I explore this concept. The navigation, the hunt, and the kill. The death of promises, dreams and the future that was once promised. But like the wildest plucked roses, I find myself more beautiful delicately wilted, in shadow, forced solace, darkened at the edges and achingly thirsting to be tended to again.”

Twigs’ prolific return to music this year comes after nearly two years of uncertainty about her future in the music industry. Ahead of Caprisongs’ release back in January, she revealed that she was considering retiring from music altogether.

“In the first lockdown I called around my team hinting that maybe I had hit the end of the road making music, and putting my insides on blast how I have done for the last few years, it felt nice playing with the idea of not creating for the world,” she said honestly. “I have fallen back in love with music, danger, trying new things, sex, love, raves… It felt so daunting knowing that I had to heal in front of the world, I hated the idea of it, but there was a tipping point where I knew I could get this project out and it would make me feel better and it really has.”
