From supermodels to superstars of the music and sports industries, from a life imitating art moment to a fashion shows with a cause, here are some notable moments from the recently concluded New York Fashion Week spring 2023 season.
Supermodels made a splash on and off the runways.
It started with Linda Evangelista at the finale of the Fendi show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. She wore a Tiffany blue opera coat and silvery gray gloves with a Fendi baguette bag in hand. She closed the show as fellow supermodels Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, Amber Valleta and Shalom Harlow applauded from the front row.
Throughout the week, 90s and early 2000s models reclaimed the runway. Mark Vanderloo followed Shalom Harlow on the catwalk at COS’s debut show in New York. At the premiere of the Vogue World event, models like Helena Christensen, Liya Kebede, Carolyn Murphy, Valleta and Harlow sashayed down the cobblestone steps of the Meatpacking District to Madonna’s fashion anthem Vogue alongside the current crop of models including Bella and Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls, Precious Lee and Kendall Jenner. At Michael Kors on the final day of NYFW, Kors muse Carmen Kass shared the runway with Natasha Poly, Mariacarla Boscano and Caroline Trentini.

The Devil Wears Prada meta moment at Michael Kors.

Anne Hathaway sent the Instagram world ablaze when she sat in the front row of the Michael Kors show in a chocolate brown ensemble and a hairstyle that echoed one of her looks from the movie The Devil Wears Prada. Sitting next to Anna Wintour, references to the movie were hard to miss.
Celebrities from different industries made their mark.

Lil Nas X did double duty at NYFW. First as a runway model at the Coach show where he is now a brand ambassador. He sported long braids and a leather vest and rolled up shorts. Later that night, he closed the Vogue World fashion show with a performance of his song Industry Baby in a metallic mesh crop top and silver flared pants alongside the Hadid sisters and Serena Williams in a silver cape and dress. The recently retired-from-tennis Williams opened and helped closed the event. At Dennis Basso’s 40th anniversary show, the designer took his bow with loyal client Martha Stewart in tow.

Monse’s runway show for a cause.

For their spring 2023 show, Monse designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia asked their guests to make a $50 minimum donation to City Harvest, a non-profit organization which helps to combat hunger in New York City by rescuing excess food from the city’s restaurants. The show, which featured the brand’s signature urban deconstructed aesthetic, raised $12,000 for City Harvest.
