India Box Office: ‘Brahmastra’ Crosses $45 Million Worldwide In 10 Days

Ayan Mukerji’s new film, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva became the top Hindi film with highest earnings in 2022, over the weekend. It topples The Kashmir Files from the top slot. The film managed to collect $7.4 million worldwide over the second weekend of the film’s release. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy in lead roles, the movie released worldwide on September 9.

After making it to the top of Comscore’s
list for worldwide collections in the opening weekend, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva remained in the top five for the second weekend as well. It ranked on fourth slot for the weekend ending September 18. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King topped the list while Ol Parker’s Ticket To Paradise and Lee Seok-hoon’s Korean film Confidential Assignment 2: International were ahead of Brahmastra Part One Shiva. The Hindi film collected $1.1 million in the US markets alone over the second weekend.

As per the film’s production house, Dharma Productions, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva has grossed $45 million worldwide in ten days. Director Mukerji shared a thank you note for audience on social media on Monday. He wrote, “Brahmastra Part One is 11 days old today, and on this Monday (day of Hindu God Shiv) putting out some good pure energy for…What the film has achieved so far! The journey it will continue over the next few weeks as the festive season comes upon us! All the audience feedback we have received (good, and not so good) – all of which we are absorbing and learning deeply from!! All the amazing fan theories out there (some of which we’re definitely going to use in our future!).”

He added that the film’s success gives him energy to start work on the trilogy’s second part. “Part two: Dev & The Astraverse! I didn’t think I would be ready to get back to work as soon as this first baby was delivered, but the energy from our audiences has given me the energy to jump straight back into it…! For all this… Thank you.”

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva is running successfully at the ticket windows in India but it opened to mixed reviews. It is being widely appreciated for the VFX work, but failed to impress critics with the screenplay. Underutilized talent such as Dimple Kapadia being wasted in a blink-and-miss role also proved to be a negative point for the film. The chemistry between the lead pair – Kapoor and Bhatt – could not ignite the screens with any charm. The lead actors got married just a few months ahead of the film release.
