Klopp’s classy response
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sent his congratulations to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City after the Reds’ rivals pipped them to the Premier League title.
On a rollercoaster final day of the Premier League season, Guardiola’s side overcame a two-goal deficit to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and pip Liverpool to the crown, wrapping up a fourth league win in five years. It means Liverpool will not claim a historic quadruple this season, but still have the chance to add the Champions League to their FA Cup and Carabao Cup wins when they face Real Madrid in Paris next week.
And following the dramatic climax of the Premier League season, Klopp sent his congratulations to City and also thanked Aston Villa and Wolverhampton “for making a proper game of it”.
Tchouaméni considers move
Aurélien Tchouaméni is weighing up a summer move to Liverpool – but could yet join Real Madrid instead.
The Monaco midfielder has agreed the same terms in principle with both clubs and is now taking some time to mull over his next move. But in a huge blow to the Reds’ summer transfer window plans, insiders at the Anfield club think there is little chance he will come to England.
Carragher reacts to title loss
Jamie Carragher says the Premier League would be “cakewalk for City every year if it wasn’t for Liverpool”.
Manchester City wrapped up the Premier League title on a dramatic final day, with Carragher on punditry duties for Sky Sports’ coverage of Liverpool v Wolves. And while missing out on the title is sure to sting Carragher due to his allegiances to the Reds, the former defender admitted City were worthy winners – but also praised his former side for their achievements this season.
