Mohamed Salah “rejected Liverpool’s request” to get a scan on the injury he suffered in the FA Cup final before reporting for international duty last week, his national team boss has claimed.
The Egypt international was forced off injured during the FA Cup final success over Chelsea after suffering a groin injury in the first half but made a return to fitness in time for the Champions League tie against Real Madrid two weeks later. But his international boss Ehab Galal has now suggested the winger may not have been at full fitness for the crunch tie in Paris.
It comes as Spanish giants Barcelona have promised Salah a blockbuster move next summer – with the Reds ace now set to perform a dramatic transfer U-turn. And James Milner has explained why he accepted Liverpool’s ‘reduced’ contract terms after rejecting three other offers.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.
Salah ‘rejects Reds request’
Egypt manager Ehab Galal has said that Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah “rejected Liverpool’s request for an X-ray” before reporting for international duty.
The Reds forward played the full 90 minutes of his country’s 1-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over Guinea in a move that will have risked angering his club bosses. Galal later revealed after the match that Salah had been “suffering from an injury and played through it” and will now undergo a scan to assess the potential injury.
Barcelona promise Salah move
Mohamed Salah may have changed his mind about staying at Liverpool beyond next season after Spanish giants Barcelona promised him a move next summer.
The Reds ace will be out of contract in a little over a year’s time but is expected to stay with the Anfield club for next season whether he signs a new deal or not. But Barcelona have now offered a verbal assurance they will make a move for the winger when his contract expires.
The forward’s hesitation on a new term at Liverpool is thought to be due to Barca’s proposal, despite Salah informing friends a few months ago that he was ready to pen a new agreement at the Merseyside club.
Milner has explains contract decision
James Milner has explained why he decided to extended his Liverpool contract
The midfielder agreed to a new 12-month contract after accepting lower wages. Milner had offers from another Premier League club as well as two from abroad but says he wants to add to his impressive achievements at Anfield.
Milner believes he “can still contribute to the squad” despite his advancing years, and despite the disappointing end to last season, says he is “more hungrier for more success.”
