Pep Guardiola appears set to finally get his transfer wish and secure a world-class striker after missing out on Tottenham’s Harry Kane last summer. But Liverpool will know that two signings they make in the summer could be even more productive than the Norwegian forward.
It comes as Sir Alex Ferguson’s worries about Jurgen Klopp have been proved right as the Reds continue to dominate Manchester United. Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo has personally thanked Liverpool supporters for the touching tribute to his son on Tuesday night.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.
Ronaldo sends thanks
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has sent his personal thanks to Liverpool supporters who paid tribute to his son during Tuesday night’s game at Anfield.
Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez had been expecting twins, a boy and a girl, but they shared the tragic news on Monday that their son died shortly after childbirth. Reds fans took part in a planned applause during the seventh minute, in honour of the United ace’s shirt number, and broke out into a spontaneous chorus of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ to pay their respects to the child in a touching moment at Anfield.
And Ronaldo has now sent a message to the fans who took part in the tribute as he sent them his thanks.
Klopp worries proved right
Sir Alex Ferguson’s concerns over Jurgen Klopp taking charge at Liverpool have been proved right – five years after he raised them.
The United legend reportedly told Jamie Carragher in 2017 the Reds ‘had a manager’ after they appointed Klopp, and admitted he was ‘worried’. After Liverpool thrashed Ferguson’s old side 4-0 on Tuesday night, following on from their 5-0 win at Old Trafford earlier this season, it appears Sir Alex’s worries really have been proved right.
Reds’ two Haaland alternatives
Liverpool know that two signings they are aiming to make this summer could provide the perfect alternative to Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian striker appears set to sign for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as Liverpool’s Premier League rivals could finally land the top-class centre-forward they’ve been craving. But Liverpool are also gearing up for a busy summer as they aim to lock star forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane down to new contracts, with both set to expire at the end of next season.
And the Reds know that getting both deals over the line could give them the same sort of boost City are about to get with Haaland.
