Liverpool transfer round-up: Marco Asensio price emerges as Raphinha move ‘blocked’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with the transfer dealings his club have already made in the summer market after completing two deals before the start of July.

The club broke their transfer record by sealing an £85m deal for Darwin Nunez from Benfica, with the 34-goal Uruguayan frontman replacing Sadio Mane as he prepares to join Bayern Munich for £35m. And the German followed up the marquee signing with one for the future, capturing the highly-rated full-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen for £4m on Saturday, which could rise to £6.5m with add-ons.

But with Manchester City and Tottenham already strengthening their squad, Klopp will know that they cannot afford to end their spending prematurely, with more deals potentially materialising this summer. Here, Mirror Football bring you the latest transfer news and gossip coming out of Merseyside.

Liverpool have been told how much it will cost them to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid this summer, with the La Liga giants slapping a €40million (£35m) price tag above his head.

According to reports from Diario AS, Klopp is interested in bringing Asensio to Anfield and the Reds have already informed the player’s representatives of their interest.

AC Milan are also keen on the winger and are likely to rival the Champions League runners-up for his signature.

Asensio only has one more year left to run on his current deal and there are doubts over whether he will renew. He faces only being guaranteed a bit-part role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side next season, despite making a full recovery from a serious knee injury.

The 26-year-old’s return of 10 goals in 31 appearances in La Liga — with only 19 of those being starts — suggests he is back to his best.

With reports of Mohamed Salah’s possible exit next summer on a free transfer, Klopp may view Asensio as an ideal long-term replacement to add some more creativity to an already talented frontline.

Raphinha agent ‘blocked’ Anfield switch

Liverpool have been told they could have signed Raphinha if it wasn’t for the player’s agent Deco, who is working on brokering a move to Barcelona.

The Brazilian has been a long-term target for the Merseyside outfit and it was believed Klopp was keen to launch a bid in January before moving up their timeline to capture Luis Diaz from Porto. Instead, it is believed Barcelona are now in the driving seat to land the 25-year-old from Leeds, who want £50m for their star winger.

And according to Catalan outlet Sport, a source close to the deal has spoken about the influence of Deco, with the former footballer-turned-agent reportedly promising Barca the chance to sign him – and blocking Liverpool – while they free up transfer funds.

The confirmed arrival of Ramsay from Aberdeen could see Neco Williams leave Liverpool as it emerged that two Championship clubs are reportedly eyeing a summer deal.

The Wales international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, could extend his loan deal for another season with the Cottagers interested in the 21-year-old. Nottingham Forest are also looking to strengthen their squad following their promotion to the top flight, according to TeamTalk.

It was understood that Liverpool were initially open to a permanent deal worth in the region of £15m, but it appears a loan move is more likely at this stage.
