Liverpool transfer round-up: Raheem Sterling backed for return as Darwin Nunez verdict emerges

The 2022/23 summer transfer window is now finally open and Liverpool are anticipated to be keen on splashing the cash over the next few months.

After losing out on the Champions League and Premier League titles last term, Jurgen Klopp will certainly be targeting improvement – and that could well involve welcoming new names to Anfield. In the meantime, a number of the current squad at the German’s disposal have been linked with summer moves away.

There is of course plenty of time still to go in the window but with vast array of rumours already beginning to circle, ensure you keep updated on who could be arriving or leaving Anfield over the next few months.

Darwin Nunez ‘low-risk’ signing

One of the standout names linked with the club over the past couple of months has been Darwin Nunez. It is suggested that the Reds are set to pay €80m (£68.1m) for the Benfica striker, with the club keen to add to their attacking options amid ongoing speculation over the future of Sadio Mane – the Senegalese having been linked with a switch to Bayern Munich.

Despite Man Utd harbouring doubts over a big-money deal, Almeria – Nunez’s former club – sporting director João Gonçalves has assured that the Uruguayan will be able to adapt easily. He said: “He won’t have any adaptation problem. Darwin is humble, has talent, a winner’s mentality and a great capacity for work.”

Sterling backed for Liverpool reunion

Whilst Darwin Nunez looks likely to become an expensive addition to Liverpool’s attack this summer, one move that does seem unlikely is Raheem Sterling. The England forward has been reported to be considering his future at Man City, with Trevor Sinclair suggesting he would be welcomed back to Anfield.

Speaking with talkSPORT, he said: “I think they’d [Liverpool] have him. I think Liverpool fans would have him back because they’ve seen what he’s won at Manchester City and the way that he’s conducted himself.”

Reds set Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fee

Liverpool are reportedly open to selling midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a modest fee this summer. The former Arsenal star has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield with the Liverpool Echo suggesting that £10m would be enough to see them cash-in.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of contract next summer, with Premier League rivals West Ham United having lodged their interest in signing him.
