Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds ‘join’ Matheus Nunes race as £42m winger targeted

Excitement for the new season is building as Liverpool have touched down in the Far East to begin their pre-season friendlies.

Up first for the Reds is a clash against Manchester United in Bangkok on Tuesday and Jurgen Klopp has taken a 37-man squad out to Thailand as he ramps up his side’s preparations. One defender has been left out of that travelling party, however, suggesting he may be on the move this summer having failed to make an impression during his time at Anfield.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are linked with a move for one of Spain’s brightest prospects, while Matheus Nunes continues to command interest from the Premier League. Here, Mirror Football brings you the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Reds eye Athletic winger

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams as they weigh up activating his £42million release clause, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. The 19-year-old scored three goals in 39 appearances in all competitions last season, having emerged from the Athletic academy the campaign prior.

Williams is the younger brother of the La Liga club’s No. 9, Inaki, and he is under contract until 2024. The teenager is considered one of the brightest prospects in the Spanish top flight, so it comes as no surprise that the report claims Manchester United are also monitoring the situation.

Liverpool’s forgotten defender Ben Davies is a target for Championship duo Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, according to Sky Sports, per the Liverpool Echo. The centre-back, 26, has never played a competitive minute for the Reds since joining during the January transfer window of the 2020/21 season, when the Reds were struck by an injury crisis.

He has not been named in the 37-man squad Klopp will take to the Far East during pre-season, suggesting an Anfield exit is likely. Davies spent last season on loan with Sheffield United and a return to the second tier is on the cards amid interest from Stoke and Blackburn.
