Man Utd news: Cristiano Ronaldo receives fine decision as Erik ten Hag names new rules

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be handed a fine despite the fact he will not take part in Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Thailand.

United jet off four the tour on Friday, but Portuguese superstar Ronaldo will not be on the plane having been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue. The 37-year-old has asked to leave Old Trafford this summer in order to secure himself Champions League football next season, following a disappointing first season back at the club.

It comes as new manager Erik ten Hag has named the five rules he expects all of his players to abide by under his leadership. And United have suffered a blow to their hopes of signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong with Premier League rivals Chelsea reportedly ready to include two players in their bid for the midfielder in order to tempt him to Stamford Bridge.

Ronaldo avoids punishment

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the group of Manchester United players and staff flying to Bangkok on Friday for their pre-season tour.

The forward has not trained with the club all week despite being expected to return for pre-season on Monday, having told his United bosses he is dealing with a family matter. United will not fine the forward for his absence despite him being unable to fulfil his contractual obligations.

Ronaldo has asked to leave the Old Trafford outfit this summer as he feels he only has “three or four seasons” left at the top level and wants to play for a side capable of winning the Champions League.

Ten Hag names new rules

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has issued his players with five rules he expects them to abide by.

The United manager has told his players they will be exiled from the first team if they are found to be leaking dressing-room information, which happened regularly during the course of last season. Players will also be dropped if they turn up late for team meetings or training – no matter who they are.

Alcohol consumption has also been banned during match weeks and players are set to be put on strict new diets. Ten Hag has also informed his players to go to him if they have any problems – and not their agents.

De Jong transfer blow

Manchester United could miss out on the signing of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, with Chelsea reportedly ready to swoop in for him.

The Blues hope to gazump United by taking advantage of Barca’s interest in two of their players. The Spanish giants have been linked with both Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta this summer and reports now suggest Chelsea could include both in a player-plus-cash move for De Jong.

The move would come as a significant blow to United, after new boss Erik ten Hag made the former Ajax midfielder his number one transfer target ahead of his squad overhaul this summer.
