Ten Hag makes FA Youth Cup request
Erik ten Hag has already asked for a copy of Manchester United Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup win on video.
The new United manager was preoccupied and unable to watch the match himself as his Ajax team were claiming a 5-0 victory over Heerenveen to lift the Eredivisie title. But the Dutchman seems keen to still cast his eye over United’s young talent – and there’s every chance he could choose to promote some of them to his senior side in years to come.
Garnacho celebration sparks tears
Alejandro Garnacho’s parents were moved to tears during his wild scenes of celebration during Manchester United Under-18’s FA Youth Cup win.
The young Argentinan announced himself to some 70,000 Manchester United fans in attendance at Old Trafford as the Class of ’22 beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 to lift the trophy. Garnacho inspired his team to success as he won and subsequently dispatched a controversial penalty before netting his second goal deep in stoppage time.
And as United’s matchwinner celebrated his second goal with Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siu’ celebration, his parents struggled to hold back their tears.
Inside Ten Hag’s meeting
Less than 24 hours after wrapping up the Eredivisie title with Ajax, incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was meeting with football director John Murtough in Amsterdam.
The pair met to discuss transfer targets, with Ten Hag reaffirming his desire to bring in two new centre-midfielders to the club this summer. Ten Hag’s long-time Ajax assistant Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren were also said to be at the meeting – with both close to agreeing terms to join him at Old Trafford.
