Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag sent Cristiano Ronaldo advice as Rivaldo approves transfer

While numerous clubs in and around Manchester United in the Premier League table are well stuck into their summer business, it remains all quiet at Old Trafford.

The arrival of a new manager in Erik ten Hag was expected by many to trigger a flurry of departures and an influx of fresh faces coming into the squad. But there has not yet been that rotation in playing personnel.

Ten Hag will no doubt be keen to put his mark on the squad in terms of new players, although getting some of the best footballers in the world to move to United is no longer a straightforward task.

Will Ronaldo be a key player in the upcoming season under Ten Hag? Let us know in the comments section below!

Ten Hag sent Ronaldo advice

Former Manchester United defender John O’Shea has offered advice to Ten Hag on how to bring the best out of Cristiano Ronaldo next season.

There have been some questions as to how the new coach will get the best from the veteran forward, who doesn’t appear a natural fit for the high-intensity blueprint that was instilled during his time at Ajax.

Ronaldo looks set to remain a United player though and it will be fascinating to see where he is utilised in the new regime.

“When you see what he does and the goals he brings to the team, having Cristiano there is going to be an asset and I’m sure the new manager will get that across to him,” said O’Shea. “He brings goals and every team wants goals – they’re so crucial.

“Every manager wants new attackers and new signings, but he’ll have Cristiano Ronaldo in his side who can produce hat tricks, winning goals and amazing quality. He’ll want to play every game as always and what’s wrong with that? But the manager has to control that and make sure he uses him in the right way.”

Rivaldo gives Antony United approval

Brazil icon Rivaldo believes Ajax winger Antony would be an excellent signing for Manchester United.

Antony made impressive strides in Amsterdam under Ten Hag, with his darts infield from the right flank onto his left foot a key feature of the team’s attacking play. Just 22 years old, it’s easy to see why so many big-name clubs are interested in him.

United are the side to have been most frequently linked and Rivaldo thinks he would thrive at Old Trafford.

“Antony can do wonders at Manchester United and the World Cup,” he said. “He enjoyed a fantastic 2021/22 season and I’m sure he attracted the attention of bigger clubs.

“At the moment, Manchester United – who have his former manager Erik ten Hag – seems to be the closest club to signing him and I’m confident we’ll all enjoy watching him play at Old Trafford.”

Neville makes ‘graveyard’ claim

United legend Gary Neville believes the club has turned into a “graveyard” for players since the Glazer family took charge.

The Red Devils have spiralled since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, with a number of questionable decisions made both on and off the field by the club. If they don’t win the Premier League title this season, then it will be a decade since the club’s last.

In reference to United’s apparent fight with Brentford over free agent Christian Eriksen, Neville posted a critical tweet relating to how the club has been run.

“That’s why dividends have to stop for a period,” he said. “Every penny has to go back into the club until it becomes attractive again. The club has become a graveyard for players. Culturally for owners to take [money] out of a poorly performing business is demoralising!”
