United’s starting line-up could be rather different with the club set to be busy in the summer transfer window. A new defender, midfielder, winger and striker could well arrive to make the United starting XI have a different look about it, with Ten Hag set to be handed a £200million transfer kitty to spend.
And a familiar face could come back to Old Trafford with Steve McClaren set to be appointed as one of Ten Hag’s assistants. Elsewhere, Donny van de Beek has reacted to ten Hag’s appointment at the club.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Manchester United headlines.
Van de Beek reacts to appointment
Donny van de Beek has reacted to the news that Erik ten Hag is set to become the next manager of Manchester United.
The Ajax boss’ imminent arrival at Old Trafford was announced by the club on Thursday meaning he is set to be reunited with Van de Beek, whom he reached the Champions League semi-finals with in 2019. Ten Hag previously called United’s treatment of Van de Beek a ‘mortal sin’, with the midfielder’s struggles for game time at Old Trafford seeing him join Everton on loan until the end of the season.
And Van de Beek gave a thumbs up when asked if he was happy about Ten Hag’s imminent arrival at United.
McClaren set to join
Steve McClaren is set to be announced as one of Erik ten Hag’s assistant coaches.
Ten Hag has agreed a deal to become the next United boss and has penned a contract until 2025. Ten Hag’s assistant at Ajax, Mitchell Van der Gaag, will also join the club as part of the deal and the Ajax boss also wants to bring Steve McClaren back to the club as well.
McClaren was previously assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford between 1999 and 2001 and formed part of the historic treble-winning campaign. And Ten Hag will hope the former England manager will help him restore the club to their previous heights.
United’s likely line-up next season
Manchester United are set to undergo a dramatic squad overhaul to back new manager Erik ten Hag – who will be handed a £200million transfer kitty to reshape his team.
It means that the United line-up could look rather different when they take to the pitch for Ten Hag’s first game next season, with a new defender, midfielder, winger and striker set to be targeted. Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Darwin Nunez, Ruben Neves, Jurrien Timber and Antony are thought to be among Ten Hag’s targets.
And Mirror Football has taken a look at which are the most likely to arrive.
