Man Utd transfer round-up: Red Devils suffer double Milinkovic-Savic and Nunez setback

Manchester United may have one game left of their worst ever season in the Premier League, but plans are already well underway for next season as they look to rectify an abysmal campaign with Erik ten Hag in charge.

The Dutchman is set to attract a host of stars to the club and is reportedly keen on a reunion with Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, while Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is also on the shortlist of players to replace Paul Pogba this summer.

With plenty set to go down at the club over the next few months, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer news coming out of Old Trafford…

Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong a top target

Manchester United are preparing for the departure of Paul Pogba in the summer and have lined up a number of potential replacements for the French midfielder, and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is reportedly one of the top targets.

According to Sky Sports , the Red Devils want the Dutchman but no deal is imminent, although initial talks have already been held over a potential move for the midfielder.

A lack of Champions League football could become a problem, but Man Utd are confident that a reunion with Erik ten Hag could be enough for de Jong to settle on a move to the north west.

Lazio chief insists Milinkovic-Savic not for sale

Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is another sought after player in Europe this season and has reported interest from Man Utd, although the Italian club’s president Claudio Lotito insists the player is not for sale and has quashed any rumours of a potential exit for the midfielder.

Milinkovic-Savic has been strongly linked with the Red Devils, but Lotitio has even gone as far as revealing that he has already rejected a mammoth €140million bid for the Serbian international.

As reported by talkSPORT , Lotitio told Rai Sport: “Milinkovic is not for sale. I turned down a €140million (£120m) bid for him,” before adding: “I’d ask Sergej what he wants to do in case we receive an important proposal from a world-class club.”

Newcastle given Man Utd Nunez setback

Manchester United are one of a number of clubs who remain interested in signing Benfica forward Darwin Nunez this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options, but could face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United for his signature.

According to Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade, via the Express , a £60m bid for Nunez could be submitted imminently by the Magpies as a way of ‘celebrating’ their top flight survival this season, having been linked with him in the January transfer window.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been the Red Devils’ main source of goals this season but needs support, and with Edinson Cavani set to leave and the uncertainty of Marcus Rashford’s future, Nunez would be a perfect signing, but they will have to act quickly.
