Man Utd transfer round-up: Ten Hag ‘contacts’ Brobbey as De Jong eyes Barcelona stay

After weeks of inactivity, things are finally starting to heat up in the transfer market for Manchester United and their new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman finally wrapped up his first summer capture in the form of Feyenoord full-back Tyrell Malacia earlier this week, but the former Ajax chief also learned that Cristiano Ronaldo is eager to quit the club for a team who can offer him Champions League football next season.

If Ronaldo does get his wish, then the onus will be on Ten Hag to step up his attempts to sign a new striker; but there are already a whole host of names being linked with a move to the club. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer news from Old Trafford…

Ten Hag ‘makes contact’ with Brobbey

After Ronaldo dropped a bombshell over his future this week, it appears as though Ten Hag is plotting to try and fill the talisman’s void by bringing Brian Brobbey to England.

The 20-year-old striker came through the ranks at Ajax and was even handed his senior debut by Ten Hag before he was lured away by RB Leipzig last summer. However, Brobbey has failed to settle in Germany and is free to leave the Bundesliga outfit this summer.

Ajax are keen on bringing the striker back to Amsterdam on a permanent basis, but according to a new report from BILD, Manchester United are now plotting to hijack their move for Brobbey, who is reportedly available for just £13million. The report claims that Ten Hag and Brobbey have spoken over the phone and youngster is “totally open” to the idea of moving to Old Trafford.

Former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has claimed that Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has told him that he is not angling for a move away from the Camp Nou this summer.

The Dutch midfielder is Ten Hag’s top summer transfer target, and United have been locked in talks with Barcelona for weeks in a bid to thrash out a deal for the 25-year-old.

However, Koeman has poured cold water on speculation linking De Jong with a move to the Premier League. Speaking at the Koeman Cup golf tournament in Sant Esteve de Sesrovires, the Dutchman said: “I know the situation of Frenkie and he said it himself the other day, he wants to stay. It was his intention to stay at Barcelona and nothing else. That is the only thing I know.”

Manchester United have been warned that they will have to stump up some major cash if they are to prise Antony and Lisandro Martinez away from Ajax.

Ten Hag is keen to reunite two of the stars of his title-winning side at Old Trafford, but according to The Daily Record, the Dutch champions are seeking a combined fee of £106.1million for the in-demand duo – meaning that United are highly unlikely to be able to afford to bring both players to the Premier League this summer.

It is believed that Ten Hag has only been handed a modest transfer budget by the United hierarchy. And that – coupled with Ajax’s sky-high demands – appears to have put an end to the 52-year-old’s hopes of reuniting with both Antony and Martinez.
