Marco Asensio gives “short” verdict on Real Madrid target Mohamed Salah

Real Madrid winger Marco Asenjo has claimed that Mohamed Salah is ‘one of the best’ players in the world amid rumours linking him with a switch to the Spanish capital.

The Egyptian has just over 12 months left on his current deal at the Reds and is yet to sign a new contract. With the uncertainty surrounding his future, there have been rumours suggesting Salah could be on his way to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Having scored 22 goals so far this season, Salah is on track to win his third Premier League Golden Boot, after winning the award in his first two seasons at Liverpool. It isn’t just his domestic record that is impressive with the 29-year-old netting 34 times in 55 Champions League appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Salah could face off against Los Blancos in the final of the competition should Liverpool beat Villarreal and Real Madrid progress past Manchester City. However, Asensio has suggested the former Chelsea man is already at a ‘wonderful’ club and has praised the Madrid-linked forward.

He told Egyptian outlet Dostor : “Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world. He was at the forefront of football for many years, he is in a wonderful club like Liverpool, who fought and competed in great battles to win great titles over many years.

“Salah, in short, is a player with a special and great talent and a very good left foot that he plays with distinction, it is always a pleasure to watch any game he plays in.”

Salah has also been speaking about his future, and in a recent interview with FourFourTwo, he admitted the root of the problem isn’t financial. With Salah set to enter into his fifth season with the Reds, there is no doubt they will be keen to tie him down to a new contract.

“I don’t know, I have one year left,” Salah said. “I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.

“This club means a lot to me – I’ve enjoyed my football here more than anywhere, I gave the club everything and everybody saw that. I’ve had a lot of unbelievable moments here, winning trophies, individual goals, individual trophies. It’s like a family here.”
