FTX is one of the largest cryptocurrency platforms bridging fashion, luxury, and crypto. Last night, just twenty-minutes from the goings on of the Cannes Film Festival, movie stars and the influential gathered at the amfAR Gala to raise money for AIDS research. FTX was a lead sponsor and official crypto currency partner of the renowned philanthropic event. And because of their success on the sporting world, FTX has ventured into the fashion space and proves to be doing well.
“We have the same values at amfAR so it was a no brainer being here. AIDS is still a very important cause; many people are still dealing with it. From a luxury and fashion standpoint, you have the epicenter of all of that converging,” notes Lauren Remington Platt, Head of Global Fashion and Luxury Partnerships for FTX.
The gala included flamboyant fashion. Model and actress Milla Jovovich wore a dramatic light blue voluminous gown and actress Eva Longoria wore thigh high slit black dress with revealing shoulders. Cynthia Erivo, gala Chair wore a gown with a black deep v-neck bodice and a flowy peach skirting. Remington Platt wore a flowy blush green gown with elegant shoulders. Tom Hanks, Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Alton Mason, Law Roach, and Robert De Niro were all attendance. De Niro won an honorary award and auctioned off a piece of artwork by his father that sold for over $535,000.
“I think it’s always a special night and the work that amfAR has been doing for decades is important and very much needed. I’m honored to sit in this room,” shared Law Roach. The renowned fashion stylist shared that he will use his platform to bring attention to the disease and to continue the work amfAR is doing.
For Remington Platt and FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried it was a no brainer to be a part of the evening. “A cure for AIDS still remains to be discovered and the impact of this disease is enormous. Approximately 4,100 people worldwide are becoming infected with HIV every single day, and while treatments are readily available in Western countries, impoverished regions struggle to access the same resources,” shares Bankman-Fried.
“My passion is getting crypto to a wider demographic of consumers, specifically women. When you look at crypto, if you look across the board at race, ethnicities, religion, and regions it’s quite even. But one glaring demographic and disparity is women. Only 7% of women are invested in crypto and you think about those implications from a societal perspective it affects opportunities and responsibilities,” continues Remington Platt.
Last month in the Bahamas, FTX put on their first-ever luxury fashion print campaign that was launched at the Salt Crypto Bahamas Conference. Supermodel Gisele Bündchen, their Head of Environmental and Social Initiatives, Bankman-Fried, and Remington Platt spoke on how crypto and philanthropy can intersect.
The campaign was shot by Bündchen’s photographer Nino Muñoz. The model has partnered with FTX in their commitment to donate up to $1 billion to philanthropic causes through the FTX Foundation. Projects will include making the world a better place with aims to reduce world poverty, save lives, and prevent animal suffering. “Participating in this campaign with Sam was an opportunity to drive greater awareness about the importance of companies committing to making the world a better place. It is exciting and moving to see FTX work toward driving real transformation in society. I want to continue working and helping bring attention to the importance of giving back so that everybody can do their part to create positive change for good,” noted Bündchen.
From the Bahamas Remington Platt headed to New York, to the Metropolitan Museum Of Art Costume Institute Benefit to wear the FTX necklace that was auctioned off at the amfAR Gala last night. With 18k white gold and Palladium alloy with 12ct diamonds, the blue diamonds are irradiated to highlight FTX’s iconic logo. Bids for the necklace and its accompanying NFT were able to be made in crypto and fiat. The necklace sold for $133,827 and the sale went to the fight to end AIDS through amfAR’s research.
Having low trading fees, it makes FTX appealing to investors. And FTX continues to champion causes that link fashion, luxury, and crypto, trying to bring more women into the space.
