Tips For Finding Your Summer Fragrance With Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Having honed on his craft, creating fragrances for the likes of Dior, Elie Saab and Armani, French-Armenian perfumer, Francis Kurkdjian established his Maison in 2009, setting out to form a wardrobe of luxurious scents, using only the purest of essential oils to play to your mood, event, and outfit.

The result? Distinctive fragrances with a sensual finish for both men and women, and there’s something for everyone and every occasion with a myriad of blends donning fresh, floral, spicy and unadulterated rich notes.

And if you’re in the mood for mixing up your scent as the hotter climes approach, expert Joan Tanis of Maison Francis Kurkdjian has offered up her top tips for finding your ideal summer fragrance.

Test your fragrance for a full day, going about your normal summertime activities so you can see how the scent holds up throughout the day

Heat affects your skin and warmer temperatures intensify fragrances, so things that are warmer, headier, and more will come across even more so.

Look for a summer scent that has notes that can go from day to night

Scents are often emphasized in the summer months due to the heat and we are always on the move. Notes we often turn to during the summer months include more floral and fresh notes, rather than a heavier warm or musky scent including grapefruit, lemon, bergamot and light fresh florals to help uplift our spirits. Since summer fragrances are lighter and fresher, we can be free to “over-indulge ” without the fear of overwhelming those around us, but rather to entice individuals to get even closer. In the summertime, the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua collection is perfect. Aqua Vitae forte is one of my staples. It is inspired by the beauty of life, it’s like a breath of air on a sunny day and can be experienced like an endless summer, with fresh and sensual notes.

When the weather is hot, I love a scent that conveys the feeling of freshness and cleanness

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis is a great everyday scent. It is the white t-shirt of the collection – good for everyone and for every occasion! Francis Kurkdjian, the Perfumer and Creative Director at Maison Francis Kurkdjian is always driven by a feeling, not by ingredients. So Aqua Universalis is inspired by the sensation of cleanliness and freshness, carried by notes of citrus, bergamot and white flowers. Our Cologne forte collection is another great option for summer, combining the freshness of an eau de Cologne with the strength of an eau de parfum. You can experience all three scents in travel-friendly sizes.

Choose a scent you feel confident wearing

Fragrance is very personal and has the ability to impact our mood. Don’t worry about following any arbitrary rules when it comes to fragrance. The most important thing to consider is – how do you feel when you are wearing it? If you don’t want to change your fragrance for the season, you don’t have to. Choose something that fits your mood. Today it may be an OUD, tomorrow it may be a floral scent. You can change your fragrances like you change your clothes and keep a wardrobe of scents to choose from.

Make your fragrance last longer by applying it to the pulse points of the neck and the wrists or inner elbows

One helpful tip is to also apply the scent to the knee. How come? Scent rises, so if you apply it to the knee you can enjoy the scent as much as the people around you can. Pro tip: do not apply fragrance to the hair, this will cause more oil buildup in your hair.

Experiment with other formats of fragrance

Expand beyond your usual perfume range and perhaps try fragrances expressed in other forms like a scented hair mist or scented body oil. If you feel like your fragrance isn’t lasting as long as it does during other seasons, and if you are outside for most of the day, a Scented Hair Mist may be great for you. Several of our fragrances are available in this form. Amyris femme is one of my favorites for summer and of course, Baccarat Rouge 540 is great for a special occasion.
