Today’s ‘Wordle’ Word Of The Day #346 Answer And Hint: Tuesday, May 31st

The last day of May is finally here. June—the best month of the entire year—is coming.

That’s basically my version of the words of House Stark from Game of Thrones. They say “Winter is coming” I say “June is coming.” Or, well, maybe “Summer is coming” which it does every year on the Summer Solstice which is almost always the day after my birthday.

The day before my birthday was the very first Wordle—Wordle #0—and my birthday last year was Wordle #1. So we get my birthday, the Wordle anniversary and the Summer Solstice all within a couple days of each other. Pretty cool.

In any case, let’s take a look at today’s word . . . .

Today’s Wordle #346 Hint & Answer

Be warned, oh thou travelers of the puzzle, spoilers lay in wait ahead like bandits in the night, like foul brigands by the side of the path. You’ve been warned!

First, a hint: The kind of house you might find in Downton Abbey.

And the answer is . . .

Well, I suppose if you guessed crane for your first word that means you immediately got three of the letters right, though none in the right spot. Still, a good starting word as per usual.

My guess was very unlucky—perhaps the most unlucky of any guess I’ve ever opened with. Normally adieu will cut the total possible solutions down to 123, but today it left me with 284—the most remaining possible for this word according to the Wordle Bot. Ouch!

Fortunately, my next guess—crank—was really good, leaving me with just four possible solutions. My third guess, randy, eliminated every word but one (though Wordle Bot unhelpfully tells me I should have guessed the right answer at this point. No duh, Wordle Bot!)

I didn’t know there was only one guess left, but I started to suspect that the ‘R’ would be in the last spot and that an ‘O’—the only vowel left unturned—would be in the second-to-last spot. From here I had ANOR and just needed a first letter that would fit. I went through the remaining letters and when I came to ‘M’ I was pretty sure I’d stumbled on it. Sure enough, manor for the win!

Have a great Tuesday, dearest Wordlers!
