Tottenham news: Antonio Conte faces transfer conundrum despite £150m Daniel Levy backing

Tottenham’s owners have made a £150 million investment in the club as they prepare to back Antonio Conte in the summer transfer market.

Major shareholders ENIC have pledged the funds to enable “more financial flexibility and the potential to further invest on and off the pitch”. It will be welcome news to Spurs boss Conte, who has already warned that investment is needed to compete on all fronts next season.

And it appears the Italian is already planning on how to spend his newfound riches, with Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic in his sights. While one potential transfer problem has arisen for Conte’s side as they plan their Champions League campaign next term.

£150m investment made

Tottenham Hotspur have seen their coffers rise by £150million – just in time for the summer transfer window.

Spurs have announced a £150 million capital boost in the form of shares from majority stakeholder Enic Sports INC (ENIC), an investment that will provide the club more financial flexibility to strengthen both on and off the field. Spurs’ return to the Champions League after a two-year absence, along with revenue from a first full season at their new stadium at full capacity, has resulted in the increased riches.

And it could be brilliant news for Spurs boss Antonio Conte as he plans to build on the team’s Champions League qualifiaction by bringing in plenty of new faces this summer.

Conte plans spending spree

Antonio Conte has set his sights on Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic as his first signing of the summer.

Tottenham are expected to back Antonio Conte in the transfer market this summer as they try to challenge at the top table of English football again and with the £150m they now have available. Spurs booked their return to the Champions League after a 5-0 win at Norwich on the final day of the season, completing an achievement that boss Antonio Conte had described as needing a “miracle”.

And reports suggest the club will now move for £12million-rated Kostic after he caught the eye during their successful Europa League run this season.

Transfer problem emerges

Spurs have one potential transfer problem heading into the summer as they try to comply with squad registration rules.

According to UEFA, a Champions League squad can have a maximum of 17 foreign players, with Spurs presently having 16. Southampton’s Fraser Forster is set to arrive and add to the club’s homegrown contingent but Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici will have a delicate balancing act on their hands this summer.

With so many foreign player spots already taken up, there may need to be some departures at the club this summer as well.
